OB3 was commissioned by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to conduct research among 14-21 year olds to find out their views and perceptions about studying Welsh as a subject. In order to achieve the Welsh Government's vision of a million Welsh speakers by 2050 there is a need to increase the number of young people in Welsh-medium and bilingual education, and ensure that there is an increase in the number of teachers able to teach Welsh and subjects through the medium of Welsh . In particular, there is also a challenge to tackle the increase in the number studying Welsh at A level in order to feed the Welsh departments of the universities, and the future workforce. This research will enable the Welsh Government and its partners to plan and take forward actions based on current evidence.
